Thickeners
A thickener is a large tank where water with suspended solids is held for a period of time to allow the suspended solids to settle to the floor. Once on the thickener floor a mechanical device collects the solids and feeds it to discharge point.
Application
Thickeners are used to consolidate mineral bearing watery liquid into a pumpable sludge with an s.g of 1.3. This reduces the cost because smaller volumes are pumped. Thickeners are used in circuits where there is waste mud in the water. The thickeners allow the mud to settle out and this is pumped to slimes dams. Thickeners are used in a number of processes on a process plant.
