TITAN BARREL SCREEN

The TITAN ROTATING BARREL SCREEN is a MechProTech OEM product, manufactured in-house at our workshop in Benoni, South Africa. 

The trommel / rotary screen is a solution for dry or wet sizing, washing/de-slimming, and de-watering operations with capacities of up to 2000 t/h. Our machine is driven by a chain & sprocket system and offers the full range of screening media options. Inlet cones are included as standard, while outlets and dust covers are optional.

Function

With TITAN TROMMEL SCREEN, the optimum speed is found to be 16% – 32% of the critical speed. The speed of the screen can be optimally controlled by the installed Variable Speed Drive (VSD).

Design & Fitment

This design offers the tapered barrel, a cylindrical barrel declined, or a cylindrical barrel with a spiral scroll bar for constant flow & minimum bed for efficient screening.

Our TITAN Barrel (Trommel / Rotary) Screen is a versatile solution for a variety of applications such as dry or wet sizing, washing, de-slimming, and de-watering. It can handle capacities of up to 2000 t/h and is driven by chain & sprocket systems which offer a full range of screening media options.

Function

The efficiency of the Barrel screen is a function of rotational speed, with the optimum speed being found to be 43% – 59% of the critical speed. The speed of the screen can be optimally controlled by the installed Variable Speed Drive (VSD). The VSD can vary the power frequency to attain the exact speed with ease.

Design & Fitment

TITAN BARREL BREAKER

Our TITAN Barrel Rotary Breaker has been designed for optimal size reduction of the product being processed, specifically coal or the removal of debris. The size reduction obtained is generally between 4:1 and 3:1.

Fitment & Function

Lifter bars are included as a standard fitment, ensuring the correct release height of the material. Sufficient elevation is ensured by the lifter bars designed to release the uncrushed coal at 60º – 75º rotation, giving optimal impact at the bottom of the barrel.

The efficiency of the breaker vs its rotational speed is presented simply by a parabolic curve, where the peak performance has to be found. **The optimum speed is found to be 30% to 35% of the critical speed. The speed of the breaker can be controlled and optimized until the optimum speed is achieved by the installed Variable Speed Drive (VSD). **Rotational speeds are designed for 25% – 40% of the critical speed, which allows for lifting and dropping to crack and break rather than throwing, which produces fines. (**we need to double check which percentage it is)

This allows the coal particles to collide and break along their natural grains (cleavage lines), resulting in uniform particle size distribution (PSD) with very little production of fines. This ensures the product is ready for further processing with this method preventing attrition grinding from taking place, which forms super-fines. Due to VSD operation, we can be versatile in this process. This drive and control methodology allows for optimal power consumption.

Design & Finish

Being constructed from mild steel, this allows for the Barrel Breaker to have a robust design. The product is continuously fed into the breaker using specifically designed feed chutes.

The screening plates are perforated with apertures to a maximum open area for max efficiency, with 25mm-thick mild steel plates used to maximize durability and wear life for large open areas. The Barrel Breaker is also fully enclosed with dust covers, further prioritising durability over time with use.
